A Cardboard World

A Cardboard World
By Christine Hare Tate

As I take a look around me
And draw closer to the Lord,
Things I thought so sturdy
Now seem to be cardboard.

A cardboard house will crumble
Beneath the heavy rain…
All cardboard possessions
Will surely not remain.

Everything man builds
Will one day be destroyed,
But the promises of God
Will forever be enjoyed!

I must walk away from things
That obstruct my view,
Like the cardboard trinkets
Men attach themselves to!

A cardboard world surrounds me
But it cannot endure…
The treasures of God’s kingdom
Are eternal and secure!
