By Tom D Blakely
We bring our children up to know
our Lord, and day by day to grow;
Until a day some parents know well
when they turn to sin and from God rebel…
Is what we feel, instead of trusting God in faith.
The sad acrostic, that spells SHEAF
reveals the emotions of unbelief!
Forget feelings, have faith instead,
don’t trust yourself, but trust in God.
The child you seek cannot be lost
for Christ has paid their ransom cost;
fully, freely, forever forgiven…
So get that SHEAF and bring it in!
Have you read the lesson of the Prodigal Son?
The father demonstrates good parenting!
All natural feelings must be overcome
or faithless parent, it’s you who sin!
The grudges that you harbour deep inside
pray God will cast them out – for good!
Love your child so that they can see it.
Forgive them and make sure they know it.
Don’t let them think you’ve given up
Meet them halfway and do not stop!
‘… But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him,
and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.’
