Bread & Wine

Bread & Wine
By Tom D Blakely

We gather in the Saviour’s name
The One who died to take our sin,
To share together precious faith
As we remember Jesus’ death.

God’s Spirit gives us light to see
The blood-stained cross of Calvary,
And shows us as we break the bread
The Saviour broken in our stead.

The wine we sip is like the blood
That trickled down Our Saviour’s head,
And from His hands and feet we see
The crimson flow that sets us free.

The cross has gone, the tomb is bare
And we, as one are bowed in prayer.
Our Lord has risen from the dead
To rule His people as He said.

Some day we will not meet like this
The bread and wine and prayer will cease,
For we shall meet Him face to face
To sing forever Jesus’ praise!

‘For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup,
you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.’
[1 Corinthians 11:26]
