Penance Hill

Penance Hill
By Tom D Blakely

I climbed Penance Hill
To earn peace of mind.
And there though I suffered in His name
God’s peace I did not find.

I prayed endless prayers
For poor, sick and the dead.
I gave to my church but still I knew
No change within was made.

I wasted precious time
Confessing to a man
Though it seemed to keep me right with him
I was still in my sin.

God’s grace is not earned
But given through His son
To trust in the finished work of Christ
Is all that must be done.

Idols now have gone
All that would dethrone;
The Saviour whose blood has cleansed my sin
Is all I need to own.

The act of church-going never made anyone right with God,
so do not trust your eternal destiny to any church denomination.
Salvation is simply a matter of faith between an individual and God.
God’s word, the Bible declares that salvation cannot be earned.
‘For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves:
it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.’
[Ephesians 2:8-9]

Your priest or pastor cannot save you, justify you before God, or forgive sin.
‘There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.’
[1 Timothy 2:5]

So in prayer, get right with God today and do hesitate or miss His mercy call.
Experience the joy of sins forgiven, abundant life and eternal security.
‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.’
[John 3:16]
