Psalm Sixty

Psalm Sixty
By Tom D Blakely
~

O God, You have cast us off and broken us down.
You have been displeased, oh restore us again!

You have made the earth tremble; You have made it break.
Lord heal its fractures, for our world does shake!

We are drunk and stagger, astonished and dismayed.
You have shown us Your people, times that are hard.

But for those who fear You,You raise a standard of truth.
Save us and help those You love; Your hand is our relief.

God speaks from His holy Temple; unshakeable is His word,
And His covenant mercies that is our possession from God.

With praise and thanksgiving we worship our God, the Giver;
Our Saviour, for there is no other worthy and able to deliver.

Shades of former victories reveal the Messiah will come;
Our Provider, Strength, and Lawyer, King David’s Greater Son.

Surely the victory is ours though it appears; as if not yet.
We are nothing without God; let His people never forget.

Who else can we rely upon? Yet for a time God has cut us off?
Without Him we suffer great defeat while our enemies scoff.

We think we have the victory, yet much trial still must come.
Such things God allows to prove, to whom we each belong.

The strength of man is useless against the evils that surround.
All prophecy points to Jesus Christ, where all victory is found.

O God, You have cast us off and broken us down.
You have been displeased, oh restore us again!
