That Empty Space

That Empty Space

(Inspired by Dolly Parton’s song: © ‘The Bargain Store’)

My life is always wanting something more
Though I don’t know just what I’m looking for.
I’ve even been to counselling, my spending was so bad
But all I got was lectured and they stopped my credit card.

I thought perhaps the church would hold a cure
But I left there confused and not so sure.
The pastor had the medicine that should have done the trick.
But it was hard to swallow and I didn’t feel that sick!

…My life is always wanting something more.
And I don’t know just what I’m looking for.
I’ve got an empty space in me that I can never fill,
I can’t help myself but hope there’s someone else who will.

I know I won’t get peace until I yield;
Confess I’m sick and ask God to be healed.
For God can fill the empty space, He even showed the way,
He gave His Son named Jesus, our debt of sin to pay.

I asked for God’s forgiveness for my sin.
And Jesus’ death at Calvary was my claim.
High and lifted up the Saviour drew me to Himself,
Tears of joy I cried the day God filled that empty space.

…My life was always wanting something more.
I didn’t know what I was looking for.
I had an empty space in me that I could never fill,
We can’t help ourselves but there is someone else who will!
