The Dark Night Of The Soul

The Dark Night Of The Soul
By Christine Hare Tate

When you are facing much tribulation
Waiting on the Lord with anticipation,
Believing and obeying day in and day out,
Hoping and rebuking fear and doubt,
Thinking you cannot bear anymore,
A challenge arrives worse than before.
The dark night of the soul comes without provocation,
A ferocious attack beyond expectation.
When endurance is stretched, the invader appears
And with it will bring confusion and tears.
With a vengeance it comes to shipwreck your hope,
Pushing you to the end of your rope.
When things look impossible on the surface
God is still working to fulfill His purpose.
There is no short-cut or instant reprieve,
You have to persevere and believe.
God wants you to know He is in control;
He’ll get your thru the dark night of the soul.
You’ll emerge stronger to share your story
And encourage others to give God glory!

‘Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you,
as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake
of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed,
you may also be glad with exceeding joy.’
[1 Peter 4:12-13]
