Abba Father

Abba Father
By June Stein

How blest we are to have a Heavenly Father,
Who loves each one of us and knows our name,
Not a fearsome, distant God Almighty,
But loving Creator, Who sent His Son to bear our shame.
Our Father, Son and Spirit was before all, is now and ever will be,
He knows our every fault and loves us still.
“Abba Father,” Jesus said, “Everything is possible for You,”
“Take this cup from me, yet not My will but what You will.”

And then, Our Lord fulfilled His Father’s plan for our redemption,
Following the brutal path to Calvary’s Cross,
His suffering and death brought life to every child of God,
No other sacrifice but His could forever save the lost.
Abba Father, that You could find us worthy of that cost,
For Your Beloved Son to leave His throne,
To live a life as one of us, who caused His sacrifice,
And die upon the Cross, for the whole world – alone!

Through Jesus Christ, Who rose from death – ascending to the Father,
We now receive the Holy Spirit, sent by Him to lead us,
And those led by the Spirit of God are sons of God,
We did not receive a spirit that makes us a slave again to fear,
But the Spirit of sonship; by Him we cry “Abba Father”,
From a child to our Father, dear.

The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children,
And if His children, then we are heirs—
Heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ,
In Him, we share in His suffering that we may also share His Glory,
In everlasting life!
Abba Father, through the Spirit, all praise to You and praise to Christ!
