Becoming More Like Jesus
By Christine Hare Tate
A man prayed on bended knee…
“Lord, make me just like you,
No matter what you have to do!”
The Lord took him on a tour
of His workshop to be sure….
This is what HE showed the man
Who walked with Him hand in hand.
“Over there is My potter’s wheel
Where you’ll spin until you squeal.”
“What’s that”? the man timidly inquired,
“That’s the kiln of refining fire.
Next to that is the molding room
Where I chisel, sandpaper, strip and groom!
After that you’ll go in the vise,
To be compressed down to size!
I’ll chisel more and let you sit,
Until I deem that you are fit!
It usually takes many years
Of suffering, agony and tears.
“What?” the man said despondently!
“There will be NOTHING left of me!”
“BINGO”, replied the Lord, “PRECISELY!”
“First count the cost seriously
When you ask to become like ME.”
The hefty price he’d have to pay
Caused the man to walk away!
‘If you cling to your life, you will lose it;
but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.’
‘So you cannot become my disciple without giving up everything you own.’
