Press On Toward The Goal
By June Stein
All in life, before I knew Christ, is as nothing next to Him,
I had no righteousness of my own, and was unclean in my sin.
For righteousness can’t come through the law,
Only from God, through faith in Christ,
No matter how good we try to be, we can’t overcome our sin.
Only in Christ, in His suffering and death, and the power of His resurrection,
Freely undertaken for me, to take my sin into His Perfection…
Only in Him, by Grace through faith, do we have forgiveness that sets us free,
Such a wonder I can’t comprehend; that He would die for such as me.
I am human, I am not perfect; this is plain to me,
But I press on to take hold of that, for which Jesus Christ took hold of me,
Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
I press on, toward the goal to win the prize,
For which God has called me heavenward in Christ.
Let us live up to what we have thus far attained,
And join with those who live as we do.
Many live as at war with the Cross of Christ,
Their end is destruction, and they glory in their shame.
Their mind is on earthly things, but our home is in heaven with Christ,
We await our Savior, Christ the Lord, Who will come again with Power,
Power to transform our lowly bodies to glorious bodies alike to His,
Thus, this is how we stand firm in the Lord, until that glorious hour!
