Ten Commandments

After many days of wandering through the desert,
the Children of Israel came to a mountain called Mount Sinai…

Here God told Moses to tell the people in three days He would speak to them.
There was a loud trumpet blast and thunder and lightning.
The mountain was covered with smoke, when God to the people spoke.
There was quaking and shaking and the people ran in fright.
They were terrified.

God asked Moses to come alone
to meet Him way up high,
hidden from the people’s sight.
God wrote 10 commandments in stone
by His finger they were hone.

When Moses returned after 40 days,
the Hebrew people had returned to their old ways.
They said, Moses is not coming back,
lets make merry, who knows,
how long he is going to tarry.

We will make ourselves a God
like we saw the Egyptians have
Let’s collect all the gold and make us a calf.

When Moses returned with the tablets
and saw what they had done,
he threw the 10 commandments down,
they lay all broken on the ground.

Then he took the golden calf
and smashed it into powder.
and made the people drink that chowder.

God was disappointed,
and just as in Noah’s days,
he wanted to wipe them out again,
because they had not changed their ways.

But Moses stood in the gap.
He told God, take my life instead.
Because Moses prayed,
God’s wrath was stayed,
and after 40 more days,
God gave them the tablets once again.
