Tin Gods And TV

Tin Gods And TV
By Tom D Blakely

As I write this poem, I know what some are thinking
This may be a message that you could do without.
But this is the message that God to me has given
Receive it and be blessed; trust and do not doubt.

The Lord requires today, our undivided love
To walk and talk and be with us the whole day through.
Not just to say, Hello; and then to disappear
Because we are some place, where God cannot be too.

A civilised people, today we have become
Not worshipping idols like those in pagan days.
Instead we are beguiled by something more mundane
And do not comprehend the harm that it can cause.

When watching your TV, can God be there with you?
In all situations this simple rule applies.
Actors become idols, and God is lost from view
Most of the stuff broadcast is sinful in God’s eyes.

Christians are all different, from old to very young
Older folk get lonely and for comfort view TV.
Young people stay tuned in, for they are easily bored
But God has an answer, to every quandary.

The younger that are bored; should read His word and pray
Visit other Christians; live holy lives for God.
Elders, keep Christian friends; expect great miracles
Revival will begin when idols are cast out.

God’s word does not need adapted to suit changing Christian lifestyle.
Christian lifestyle needs adapted to suit God’s unchanging word.

‘They followed worthless idols and became worthless themselves.’
[Jeremiah 2:5]
‘What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols?
For we are the temple of the living God.
As God has said: I will live with them and walk among them,
And I will be their God, and they will be my people.
Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord.
Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.
I will be a father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters,
Says the Lord Almighty.’
[2 Corinthians 6: 16-18]
