Just what happened to the church
We read about in Acts?
What’s happened to the unity they shared?
What’s happened through the ages?
Greed, perhaps? Ya think?!
It used to be that ALL the ‘church’ folk cared.
Back then no man’s possessions
Were considered as his own
They understood a concept we don’t get
They realized that God the Father
WAS their source; supply
Could we learn a lesson there? Oh, yeah! You bet!
Right now we live a life of pride
“My” house, “my” car, “my” bank account
But really, when you stop and think it through
God gave us all the where-with-all
To “have” all of these things
So they “belong” much more to Him than they do you!
Just how have you used His house?
Did you take in strangers?
And His bank account? Did you give to those in need?
And what about His car you drive?
Did you give someone a ride?
Or do you hang onto these things in all your greed?
Folks would not go hungry
If we saw all things as HIS
People wouldn’t sleep out on the street
The woman wearing rags today
Would sport much better clothing
(If these things happened we’d see a church much more complete!)
Lord, forgive us for our selfish pride
We’ve gone astray, it seems
Greed stepped in where once love only reigned
Keep us mindful of the church of old
Take us back to yesteryear
Break us loose from all these ‘things’ to which we’re chained.
