By Tom D Blakely
A Christian may surround himself
With luxuries and friends.
And spend his time enjoying life
With all the wealth God sends.
He makes a point of going to church
Puts money on the plate.
He turns the television off
When clergy visit late.
When loved ones die or illness strikes
When job or health is gone
No comfort then he finds in life
But truth begins to dawn.
No wonder God allows the pain
That drives us to our knees.
For when the pressures really mount
To Him, we make our pleas.
Do not delay to talk to God
Don’t wait to be reproved.
Don’t hedge yourself away from Him.
That hedge might be removed!
A man can serve one god, not two
So turn to Him alone
By trusting God in all we do
His peace will be our own.
‘Remember therefore how you have received and heard, and hold fast, and repent.
If therefore you will not watch, I will come on you as a thief,
and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.’
