House On A Rock
By June Stein
The house of faith, built on a rock,
Is not built in a moment, or with one prayer,
But is laid stone by stone, as we walk with the Lord,
Secure and steadfast in His care.
The foundation begins with obedience and trust,
Knowing His peace deep within,
And, daily, inspecting and dealing with flaws,
By admitting and confessing our sin.
Our Master Carpenter, Jesus, corrects it,
And makes it just like new,
And the walls of our love, adoration and worship,
Go up with great strength, straight and true.
The roof overhead is the inner guidance,
The whispers that come to our soul,
Our listening, following; and love for God’s Word,
Is the strength of our house, as a whole.
There, our Lord dwells with us forever,
From this earth to heaven above,
The mortar that holds it all together,
Is unchanging, steadfast love.
‘Every one who comes to Me and hears My words and does them, I will show you what he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep, and laid the foundation upon rock; and when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it, because it had been well built.’
[Luke 6: 47-48]
