Like A Thief In The Night
By June Stein
The coming of the Lord, Paul says, will be like a thief in the night,
But His own should not be surprised, for we are all sons of the Light,
We do not belong to the night, or to darkness,
We should be alert—to welcome that Glorious sight.
For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven,
with the trumpet call of God,
With a loud command, with the voice of the archangel,
This will happen as foretold,
And His Glory we will behold.
While people are saying, “Peace and safety”,
Destruction will come suddenly upon them,
God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him,
As the dead in Christ will rise first,
Then we who are still alive will be caught up in the clouds,
together with them,
To meet the Lord in the air…to be forever with Him!
For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath,
But to receive salvation through Jesus Christ,
He died for us, so that we might have life,
So that whether awake or asleep, we might live together with Him.
So let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breast plate,
The hope of salvation, as a helmet, and encourage each other in shared faith.
“May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through,
May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless,
At the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The One Who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.”
