Outwardly Pious

Outwardly Pious
By Christine Hare Tate

Simple, child-like innocence
is exchanged for facades,
grownup masks and guises, that
keep men from knowing God.

Instead of child-like faith
men seek God thru traditions,
activities and programs,
and outward pious missions.

They toss aside God’s precepts
for good works of their own,
thinking they’ll please God
as they approach His throne.

Men must come as children,
wide-eyed and innocent,
to the cross of Jesus Christ
and then humbly repent!

Righteous acts can’t save you,
they matter not one bit…
Salvation can’t be purchased
nor can anyone earn it!

‘Jesus said, Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them!
For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.’
[Matthew 19:14]

‘For it is by grace you are saved, through faith and this not from yourselves,
it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast.’
[Ephesians 2:8]
