The Days Are Dark

The Days Are Dark
By Tom D Blakely
~

The gospel light glows strangely dim
What have we done, what can this mean?
Could we have reaped what we have sown
And compromised the faith we’ve known?
The days are dark, the night is bright
The truth is lies, and wrong is right.

Nostalgia seems to get me through
Of bygone days when Christ we knew,
The hours we spent in honest prayer
When time stood still with Jesus there.
The days are dark, the night is bright
The truth is lies, and wrong is right.

But nowadays I pray alone
Within the sanctum of my home.
The state absorbed the Christless church
It’s hard to tell now which is which.
The days are dark, the night is bright
The truth is lies, and wrong is right.

We should have seen the compromise
The devil’s tool to close our eyes.
The remnant knew it wasn’t right
But feared to put up any fight.
The days are dark, the night is bright
The truth is lies, and wrong is right.

With hindsight, we were half asleep
And didn’t hear the serpent creep.
Confusion was the devil’s game
By teaching, ‘every faith’s the same’.
The days are dark, the night is bright
The truth is lies, and wrong is right.

The gospel light glows strangely dim
What have we done, what can this mean?
Could we have reaped what we have sown
And compromised the faith we’ve known?
The days are dark, the night is bright
The truth is lies, and wrong is right.

It’s not too late – don’t compromise!
Trust in God’s word – not Satan’s lies!
Does God no longer answer prayer?
Has Jesus lost His saving power?
The days are dark, God’s word is light
May His elect stand up and fight!

‘For we wrestle not against flesh and blood,
but against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this world,
against spiritual wickedness in high places.’
[Ephesians 6:12]
