Farewell & Adieu

Farewell & Adieu
By Tom D Blakely

Farewell and adieu, to myself, to my old self
Farewell to the emptiest person I knew.
For all that I wanted I schemed till I got it
But never was happy, believe me it’s true.

I reaped what I sowed in a life without purpose
My world fell apart and I needed support.
A helper came quickly but made me feel guilty
The message from God was a damning report.

To hell I was bound for my pride and rebellion
For this was the penalty that I deserved.
But God in His mercy sent Jesus to save me
I turned from my sin and in Jesus believed.

Farewell and adieu, to myself, to my old self
For since I met Jesus my life is made new.
I’m happy with everything God has provided
Farewell to my old self, farewell and adieu.

‘Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;
old things are passed away; behold, all things have become new.’
[2 Corinthians 5:17]
