Heading Home

Heading Home
By Tom D Blakely

We’re heading home victoriously
In step with Christ our King
The One who gave Himself for us
Who saved us from our sin.
The world of empty promise fades
As heaven is revealed
In Christ our righteousness is sure
And our redemption sealed.

A motley bunch of young and old
Foolish to shame the wise
With single minds and simple faith
In Christ who is our prize.
Have mercy Lord and shed Your light
On this dark world of sin
That many more will join our ranks
Before the end of time.

No power on earth can stop us now
Though enemies are near
As long as Christ is in command
There is no need to fear.
The fighting’s coming to an end
The time has almost come
When Jesus brings us to the gates
Of our eternal home.

‘For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things
that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence.’
[1 Corinthians 1:26-29]
