A Rock Of Offence

A Rock Of Offence
By Tom D Blakely

Our glory is as brief as grass
Which withers and is past

Let us not think so much of selves
Knowing life will not last.
There isn’t one created soul
Celebrity or poor
Who will not die in God’s own time
Of this we can be sure.

A holy nation can’t be found
On any map on earth
God’s kingdom is invisible
Made up of those in Christ.
For all mankind is lost in sin
And faces certain death,
Unless by Jesus’ sacrifice
Some come to God through faith.

The Lord has laid a stumbling stone
A Rock of great offence
And human pride will hate God’s plan
That makes no earthly sense.
But all who know God’s holy word
Revealed to them by God
By faith in Jesus’ righteousness
Shall have eternal life.

As it is written:
“Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and rock of offense,

And whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”
[Romans 9:33]
