By Tom D Blakely
There is nothing in the oceans, there is nothing on the land
There is nothing worth the having, for it all slips through the hand.
All earth’s treasure has been fought for, and its owners so well know
What they have is only trouble, that some day they must let go.
May we loosen every tight fist, every wallet, every purse
For we know the love of money, is no blessing, but a curse.
How can we be faithful stewards, that dispense our funds with care?
We can lodge our wealth in heaven, where our needs are met by prayer.
Let’s rejoice, we need not worry, for the Lord has let us know
That our harvest will be plenty, if in Him we learn to sow.
We will always be the richer, with our Saviour by our side
And we can’t out-give the Giver, for we know He will provide.
‘But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,
and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.
So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly,
or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.’
[2 Corinthians 9:6-7]
