By Christine Hare Tate

God has seen the grandeur

Of great cathedral spires

And architectural wonders,

Yet it’s not what He desires.

He sees the stained glass windows

And velvet covered chairs,

The gold encrusted ceilings

And marble laden stairs.

The opulent surroundings

Impress sheiks and kings,

But our God isn’t looking

At these outward things.

It is a contrite heart

That is paramount to God;

What man perceives as holy

God considers a facade.
