Surely God Would Not Destroy Me?
By Tom D Blakely
Surely God would not destroy me
Me, who loved my Lord so dearly?
My health, my wealth, my family gone
My nature pleads: What have I done?
Before the devil leads astray
I look to Christ; His words, my Way.
At once, I find in Him, relief
From fleeting sorrows, loss and grief.
Before I ask… my Saviour knows
About my endless list of woes.
In prayer my silence He desires
To hear, not speak, my Lord requires.
Because He is above all things
As Lord of lords and King of kings
In answer to my sad demise
He’ll open up my faithless eyes?
And how? I hear God’s silent voice…
A miracle of your own choice?
Have you learnt nothing from My Word?
Faith never doubts the love of God.
Do not despise My discipline
For out of love it has been given.
There’s one thing you need understand
All things are under my command.
And do not waver in your faith
Though tribulation fills the earth.
You are my child, one whom I love
Trust in My Word, it is enough.
The highest counsel I have shared
It is more precious than the world.
Your treasure child, you have misplaced
If not in Christ, it will not last.
And at the last I understood:
A pilgrim in a sin-cursed world
Should treasure first, almighty God
And trust in His unfailing Word.
This world shall shortly pass away
And I will be with God that day.
What will I love more than my Lord
Or treasure greater than His Word!
“Do not love the world or the things in the world.
If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh,
the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life
is not of the Father but is of the world.
And the world is passing away, and the lust of it;
but he who does the will of God abides forever.”
