Love Your Enemies

Love Your Enemies
By Tom D Blakely

O Lord look at my many foes
A godless mighty hoard
They mock You when they sneer at me
And say, Where is your God!
How foolishly they lift their hand
As if it in their power
To harm the one whom God protects
And cares for hour by hour!

O Lord You are a shield to me
My help in times of need
And on Your Word I meditate
To strengthen and to guide.
Your Word is like a treasure chest
Of blessings that endure
Unlike the riches of this world
Yours are forever sure!

Within Your Word I see the way
Of everlasting peace
The peace the world can never know
Without Your saving grace.
O Lord forgive my enemies
Through Jesus’ precious blood
That they may know You like I do
And glorify their God!

“You have heard that it was said,
‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
But I say to you, love your enemies,
bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you,
and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.”
[Matthew 5:43-44]
