By Tom D Blakely
It starts with something like a car
A new car you don’t need,
The car you have is new enough
And every bit as good.
A newer model will attract
If you allow it to,
By focusing on it, alone
The Lord drops out of view.
You feel you prayed and that God heard
And doesn’t seem to mind,
Because He didn’t answer you
That’s what you have assumed.
But here you are on dangerous ground
Temptation is a test,
Because the Lord did not say, No
Does not mean He said, Yes!
Especially when you also know
Your fellowship is poor,
To love a car more than the Lord
Should make that point quite clear!
You fail the test and buy the car
Then come to God in prayer,
You ask His blessing on your choice
It seems God doesn’t hear?
Before you came to know the Lord
You used to drink a lot,
It almost wrecked your family
When God saved you, it stopped!
But now it seems God’s far away
As if He doesn’t care,
So you begin to booze again
To find your comfort there.
Your wife is getting past her prime
She loves God more than you!
A younger woman comes along
You wonder what to do…?
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”
[1 John 2:15-17]
