No Discipline Seems Pleasant

No Discipline Seems Pleasant
By Tom D Blakely
~

There’s a subject much avoided
It is Christian discipline
We would rather talk of blessing
Christian love or anything.

Living lives of ease and pleasure
We’re inclined to go astray
When we put God in the background
We are sure to slip away.

Discipline us when we need it
Lord we know it’s for our good.
Though unpleasant it is vital
It will keep us close to God!

~

Though it doesn’t seem a good thing
When we lose our wealth or health
Or when others hate or harm us
When we’re facing grief or death.

Often Lord You let things happen
Not by chance, but by Your plan
So that we will see our weakness
And in prayer to You return.

Discipline us when we need it
Lord we know it’s for our good.
Though unpleasant it is vital
It will keep us close to God!

~

“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful.
Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness
and peace for those who have been trained by it.”
[Hebrews 12:11]
